"It’s a physical performance.
He plays and sings like he knows
what he’s singing to the bone."
-Parisa Mahdad, Kinofilia Arts Blog
Dylan Charles is an indie folk/rock singer/songwriter/producer based in New York City. His songs blend soulful lyrics and powerful vocals with dynamic and intricate guitar playing. He draws from a wide array of influences across many genres, and fans have compared his sound to the likes of Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon and John Mayer.
Dylan has toured the US many times both as a solo artist and as a founding member of the soul band On the Sun.
In addition to his own projects, he frequently collaborates with other artists as a producer, co-writer and multi-instrumentalist.
His new full length album "Transmissions" is out now and available on all platforms. The album is a collection of songs reflecting on the human condition, mental health, love and hope. As a recovering addict, Dylan’s lyrics often interrogate what it feels like to persevere in the face of adversity, and what it means to have authentic, meaningful relationships with other people. The album was co-produced by Tony Calabro at Pitch Pine Studios in NYC and features musicians from NYC, LA and Ann Arbor, MI.
"Transmissions" is Dylan’s most ambitious solo record since his work with Bisbee, AZ band The Border Crossers on Time for Breakfast (2009) produced by Craig Schumacher (Calexico, Amos Lee, Devotchka and many more…)
Between 2012-2023, Dylan’s creative energy was primarily dedicated to touring, writing and recording with On the Sun. On the Sun LP (2014), Gratuity Not Included EP (2018) and the single Get Focused (Live) (2019) all feature his work.
